Founded over 150 years ago, Phi Psi boasts a rich history at many of the nation’s top colleges and universities.
William H. Letterman and Charles P.T. Moore founded Phi Kappa Psi in the small college town of Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, during an epidemic of typhoid fever. While nursing their stricken friends, they experienced the profound joy of serving others. These long nights of care and compassion inspired them to create a Brotherhood rooted in selflessness and mutual support.
On February 19, 1852, they called together a group of like-minded individuals and established Phi Kappa Psi. What began as a fraternity born from compassion flourished, expanding to colleges and universities across the nation. Guided by their idealism, the founders envisioned a fraternity that would complement the university’s academic mission by fostering the humanities and developing individuals who would lead with purpose and service.
At Phi Kappa Psi, our Brotherhood is deeply rooted in the pursuit of academic excellence. This image captures our members actively engaged in study sessions, fostering a supportive environment where knowledge is shared, and collaboration thrives. We believe that by working together, we can elevate our academic performance and help each other achieve our goals. Whether it’s preparing for exams, completing assignments, or celebrating milestones like graduations, our members are dedicated to supporting one another on our educational journeys. This commitment not only strengthens our bond but also reinforces the importance of scholarship in our fraternity.
